Tours de France – Stage 5

Sunday 13/9:
Laval – Domfront (78.7km)

After a day off, let’s hope that the aches aren’t too bad as another long day working upstream awaits!
The first 50km continue to follow the Mayenne upstream as we move towards the ‘Suisse-Normande’ area.  While there is very little serious 5% ‘climbing’, the route appears to be quite undulating.  Apart from the town of Mayenne at about 37km, the route seems to be mainly isolated.  Some of it is following an old railway and the final view of the Mayenne is when crossing it on the old railway bridge near Ambrières-les-Vallées.  The smoother route from this point would imply that much of the remainder follows the railway although the ‘detour’ before Ceaucé is 8km on roadways before returning for the finalé.  Approaching Domfront, I head off uphill towards the town to find my overnight campsite.
